Ying Soong

Advisor

 

Ying currently works on private capital investments in the Financial Services sector at the Ontario Teachers' Pension Plan. Previously, she was a founding partner of La Tourelle Capital and worked on investments in both the Financial Services and the Healthcare sectors.  Prior to that, Ying worked on direct and fund investments at the Ontario Teachers' Pension Plan.  She worked previously at AIG, where she was a member of the founding team of AIG Energy, a principal investing and commodity trading platform.  Ying started her career at J.P. Morgan with their energy investment banking team in New York.  

She currently serves on the board of Humi.

Ying holds a MBA from Harvard Business School, where she was a winner of the Arthur Rock New Venture Competition.  Ying is an officer of the HBS Club of Toronto.  She also holds a BA in Computer Science and Economics from Wellesley College.  

Ying is a member of the WCM board-ready directory.  She was named as one of Canada's Top 50 Women in FinTech by the Digital Finance Institute, a Toronto-based think tank.  The top 50 women in this report were selected based on their leadership, vision, innovation, level of engagement, impact and their commitment to the FinTech community.  She was also named by the Canadian Board Diversity Council to the 2017 cohort of Diversity 50, which recognizes 50 candidates annually who have the knowledge, skills, and experience to lead in corporate Canada. 

Ying was born in Shanghai and has lived across Asia and North America.  She now resides in Toronto with her husband and five sons.  She is fluent in English and Mandarin.

Sam Neswick

Advisor

Sam works on investments in both the Media & Entertainment and Consumer sectors. Within Media & Entertainment, he primarily focuses on content subscription models, ad tech, gaming, and e-sports. In the Consumer sector, Sam targets companies with products and services serving the education, pet, senior care, and fitness & wellness spaces.

Prior to La Tourelle Capital, Sam served as Chief Operating Officer & Chief Strategy Officer of Participant Media, a leading media company dedicated to entertainment that inspires social change. Sam oversaw corporate strategy and operations, investments, innovation, corporate development, and strategic partnerships that are in line with the company’s mission. Sam was named as one of Hollywood’s New Leaders by Variety Magazine for his leadership and impact on the entertainment industry in 2016.

Prior to Participant, Sam held leadership positions at The Walt Disney Company in Corporate Strategy and Business Development, where he led the landmark acquisition of Lucasfilm and strategic expansion of Walt Disney Parks & Resorts in Shanghai, Hong Kong, Tokyo, and Paris. Sam also worked in management consulting as a case team leader at Bain & Company.

Sam holds a MBA from Harvard Business School and a BA in Economics from Harvard University. During business school, he was named a Teaching Fellow at Harvard University where he designed and taught a highly-rated undergraduate economics seminar.

 

He currently serves on the board of The GEANCO Foundation, a nonprofit that saves and transforms lives among Nigeria’s most vulnerable communities by providing surgical missions, maternal and infant health programs, critical school improvements, and scholarships and support for young female victims of terror and gender inequality.

 

Sam is originally from San Francisco and has lived and worked throughout North America, Europe, Asia, and Australia. He now resides in Los Angeles with his rescue dog, Albert Einstein.
